Censornet named in the 2017 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Cloud Access Security Brokers

There’s no doubt about it, the global cloud market is increasing exponentially… and, as it does, so too do the cyber threats within the cloud landscape. Today, cloud security is more important than ever before.

In a world full of IT vendors offering a stream of IT solutions, we believe that Gartner helps business leaders make informed decisions. Its Magic Quadrant is a culmination of research in a specific market that provides a wide-angle view of the relative positions of the market’s competitors, positioning them in four categories based on their ability to execute and their completeness of vision. CensorNet has been named a Niche Player in the inaugural Gartner Magic Quadrant for Cloud Access Security Brokers.

We see our inclusion within this report as a testament to our focus on protecting businesses in today’s ever growing cyber threat landscape. To us, being named is a huge achievement, made even more exciting by the fact that we’re the only European headquartered vendor included in the report.

We are a UK company and our dominant market is Europe. Cloud adoption is still less widespread than it is in, for example, North America, and our presence reflects this. In fact, many European organizations are at the point of discovery and visibility when it comes to cloud applications, so they want to know what applications users are actually interacting with.

As for our positioning as a Niche Player, we believe that it reflects our core values. We see our positioning as a platform from which to grow – in a direction defined by our customers. At CensorNet we listen to the needs of our customers, rather than innovating for innovation’s sake. What has always been most important to us is to focus our efforts on developing products and services that have value for our customers and complement their business strategies.

We don’t add features to our solution for the sake of adding them. We select and develop features as our customers raise concerns or face the threats that they mitigate against.

The recent addition of a new API mode within our USS/CASB offering was a result of this. Over the last 6 months or so we heard from customers in Europe who are starting to become concerned about cloud storage applications and the development of new cloud-only malware using shares to propagate and/or store command and control instructions. If you consider the fact that most users don’t seem to apply the same concern to a shared folder account as they would to an email attachment, you could have a big problem. Files in the corporate box account carry high implicit trust.

Many potentially dangerous or sensitive files will be uploaded to and accessed via mobile apps, which creates a security blind spot as these apps use end-to-end encryption. The way that you remove this blind spot, at least partially, is through SaaS vendor API integration. API connectors provide visibility of user activity in these mobile apps – and also enable files to be scanned for malicious or sensitive content. And that’s why we’ve added it to our solution; not just because we can, but to combat a very real threat that our customers are witnessing right now.

As we continue on our mission; to protect businesses in an increasingly digital world, we believe our inclusion in Gartner’s 2017 Magic Quadrant for Cloud Access Security Brokers serves as a great acknowledgement of what we’ve already achieved. We were recently included in the IDC MarketScape Worldwide Cloud Security Gateways Vendor Assessment and in Frost & Sullivan’s Analysis of the Global Cloud Access Security Broker Market (CASB), Forecast 2021, you can see that it’s been an exciting couple of weeks for us.

However, now it’s time to look forward. We view both acknowledgements as launching pads; our current position within them is just the beginning. As European cloud adoption continues to increase so will our offering, strengthening our position in the market and, most importantly, mirroring the journeys of our customers to the Cloud and staying aligned with their needs.
